Q: What are you getting?

A: Two posts per week (on average.)

During the season, you should expect two newsletter posts each week. One on Wednesday and the other on Sunday. You might get an additional post or two during busy periods. You might get a few less during the dog days of the offseason.

Mostly, you’re getting me. My words, my voice, my eyes, my observations, insights, and analysis from 40+ years of watching, participating, and studying the sport of basketball. If you were a fan of my work previously, I think you’ll enjoy this newsletter.

Q: How much is this going to cost?

A: $5 a month or $50 a year.

I realize these are crazy uncertain times, so I priced this as low as possible. With roughly 100 Hoopology posts per year, that translates to less than a dollar a week, or 50 cents per post.

Q: Is this going to be about the Celtics?

A: Mostly yes, but not entirely.

Full disclosure: My days of inhaling League Pass for breakfast are over. If you’re looking for comprehensive analysis of all 30 NBA teams, you should probably look elsewhere. At this point in my life I watch the NBA primarily through the eyes of my local team. The Celtics also happen to be the franchise I covered first as a beat writer and then later from a national perspective.

To be absolutely clear, I do not intend to cover the Celtics with this newsletter. I intend to write about them. Not as a fan or a reporter, but as an interested observer. I also intend to write about other basketball stuff. Some of it may affect the C’s directly, some of it may simply be of interest to me. There will be history, there will be surprises, there will be Hoopology delivered twice a week (on average) to your inbox.

Q: What are you not getting?

A: Hot takes, reactions to reactionaries, gambling advice, or any other minute-by-minute machinations emanating from the NBA’s 24/7 newscycle. My hope is that receiving Hoopology twice a week (on average) brightens your inbox and expands your understanding of this weird and wonderful game we all love.
