Should the Celtics Trade Derrick White?
It's a question, not a statement
Since the Celtics untimely first round exit, we’ve published the following pieces on Hoopology.
First, we excoriated Joe Mazzulla’s playoff coaching, which stood in stark contrast to Mazzulla’s regular season brilliance. We’ve said it before about Joe, but this early exit feels like a clearer line is being drawn in the sand. Adapt and evolve or continue living and dying by the three.
Second, we assessed Jaylen Brown’s fantasy season, which he himself referred to as, “his favorite ever.” I get why that remark left a sour aftertaste following a collective first round choke job. But for Brown, 2025-26 clearly was his best season ever. I’d be stoked too if I were him. I’d also be wary. If ever there was a time to trade him, it would be this summer.
We also addressed Jayson Tatum’s inspiring comeback from Achilles tendon surgery and wondered whether it was worth it.
Now that the offseason is upon us, it’s time for Brad Stevens to live up to the Executive of the Year hype by constructing the Celtics next great championship contender. I’m joking about the EOY hype part. No one cares about Executive of the Year, but I enjoyed parrying with my old pal Tom Ziller on the subject.
Our plan for the rest of the offseason is to continue publishing at least two pieces per week. Our pace will pick up during the draft/free agency portion of the offseason and slow down a bit once things settle into place. Paid subscriptions cost $5 a month and $50 a year. Assuming you’ll receive 50+ newsletters emails per year, that’s less than a dollar per post.
For you lovely paying patrons, we investigate the age-old question of whether the Celtics should think about trading Derrick White. Plus, a trade-value analysis of middle class luxuries Sam Hauser and Payton Pritchard.
